"Wild Wild West": LA SkyyWalker & ReddNThaBuilding Redefine West Coast Rap

In the evolving world of West Coast rap, few tracks reflect both the culture and sound of Los Angeles as well as LA SkyyWalker’s latest single, "Wild Wild West." A fiery collaboration with renowned producer ReddNThaBuilding, the track blends the aggression of the streets with the cinematic flair of an old-school Western. We got a chance to catch up with both the artist and producer, diving deep into the inspiration, creation, and vision behind the project.

The Inspiration Behind "Wild Wild West"

The creative process for "Wild Wild West" kicked off with a bang—literally. SkyyWalker recalls how ReddNThaBuilding played the beat, and the energy in the room shifted immediately. “It shook the room INSTANTLY! Me and Redd were just having our usual weekly session, and he cut that on—I jumped right in the booth,” SkyyWalker shares.

Redd, who wanted to craft something with an "old Western movie" feel, added, “It’s a vibe the West Coast ain’t heard before.” From its inception, the track promised something fresh, yet authentically Los Angeles.

Reflecting the West Coast Rap Scene

Both artist and producer agree that "Wild Wild West" stands as a testament to the trials and tribulations faced by those living in L.A.’s urban environment. “When you hear the beat, you know it’s from the city,” says SkyyWalker. “I bring that West Coast aggression in the verses, attacking topics that reflect the daily grind and struggles of our community.”

Redd echoes this sentiment, stating, “SkyyWalker isn’t a typical West Coast artist, but his authenticity shines through in this track, showing the growth in our modern-day West Coast sound.”

A Collaborative Effort with Organic Chemistry

SkyyWalker and Redd’s partnership was forged organically during Chuck Dizzle’s “Live & Direct” IG show. After creating their first track “Greezy” together, the chemistry was undeniable. SkyyWalker recalls, “We locked in after that, and everything just came together.” Their sessions in the studio were frequented by artists like Mystro, contributing to the laid-back, collaborative energy that made the project possible.

Creative Process & Standout Lyrics

For SkyyWalker, the magic of "Wild Wild West" came from the natural flow in the studio. After hearing the beat, SkyyWalker laid down his verses while Redd hopped into the booth to craft a hook that would elevate the entire record.

The standout lyric for SkyyWalker? “You out eating good while he starving in a cell / He held it down, he ain’t even tell…” He reflects on the loyalty of street soldiers and how too often, those behind bars are forgotten. “Life goes on for us on the outside, but people forget about our brothers and sisters fighting on the inside,” he notes, adding a powerful #FreeDaGang shoutout.

Visuals & the Future of West Coast Rap

Visual storytelling is a key element for SkyyWalker, who plans to release visuals for every track on his project “WalkNThaBuilding.” He hints, “The visuals will tie everything together to make the project a full experience—because WalkNThaBuilding is a movie for real.”

As for the West Coast rap scene, SkyyWalker feels it’s on the cusp of a new renaissance. “We’ve got a lot of momentum right now, and this song fits right in with the soundtrack of the city.”

What's Next for SkyyWalker & Redd

SkyyWalker has a loaded calendar with more heat coming after "Wild Wild West." Fans can look forward to a deluxe version of “WalkNThaBuilding” next month, followed by projects with Mystro and Duse Beatz. For Redd, he’s cooking up his own solo project, dropping soon, and is continuing to build his label HOMETEAM alongside more artist collaborations.

As LA SkyyWalker and ReddNThaBuilding push the boundaries of West Coast sound, "Wild Wild West" is just the beginning. With its unique fusion of cinematic elements and raw street lyricism, this track—and the projects to follow—are a must-listen for any fan of real West Coast hip-hop.
