Tap'N With Singer Alonzo
Today we’re talking to singer Alonzo, aka Alonzo Direct. Thank you for speaking with us today.
Why don’t we get started with you telling us a little bit about your background and how you got to where you are?
Alonzo: I started in the music industry as a teenager as part of an alternative duo called GlazzHouze. I took a break to finish college and to start working as a registered nurse. Now I’m getting back to creating full-time and living my dream as a recording artist, songwriter and producer.
Oh wow, a registered nurse, congrats that’s major! What would you say has been your biggest obstacle in your journey as an artist and what lessons have you learned?
Alonzo: I’d say finding the balance between working a full-time job and pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. As far as lessons, I’ve learned that you have to take time out to appreciate life and pursue your passion regardless of what it looks like.
Tell us about your music. How would you describe your sound?
Alonzo: My music is eclectic soul inspired from real life. I love creating content that speaks to the average everyday person and touches on topics we don’t often get to hear Black men speak about.
Are there any other artists you would compare yourself to?
Alonzo: I don’t compare myself to anyone else, but I’m inspired by many including Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Amy Winehouse, Beyonce, and Earth Wind and Fire.
That’s quite the list! If you could work with any artists who would you work with?
Alonzo: I would love to work with Chloe x Halle, Megan Thee Stallion, SZA, The Neptunes, Justin Biever, Timberland … just to name a few lol
Aside from also being a registered nurse lol, what sets you apart from other artists?
Alonzo: The fact that I’m pursuing the music industry from a different angle. As a successful healthcare professional/real estate investor/private business owner… I’m not focused on establishing my identity through industry work or accolades. I know who I am and I’m excited about the opportunity to impact people through the arts.
What should we know about your work?
Alonzo: All of what you see and get from me is created and developed by me. I’m not about gimmicks or puppeteer work.
Do you have any plans for the future you can share with us?
Alonzo: I plan to keep on releasing new music, writing and creating music for other artists. I also look forward to doing some life inspired short films, long form music videos as well as some additional acting projects.
What’s your biggest motivation or what keeps you going?
Alonzo: God and family are what keep me motivated.
Can you tell us something that might surprise people to know about you?
Alonzo: I don’t drink or smoke and I never have.
Wow, that’s definitely rare. Tell us, how do you define success?
Alonzo: Success is defined by personal fulfillment and the freedom to move.
Do you have any projects or new music coming out?
Alonzo: I have a few new songs and music videos coming out top of the new year, however right now my focus is on my latest single “#ItsComplicated” available on all major streaming platforms.
Do you have any last words you want to leave people with? What do you want people to know about you?
Alonzo: I want people to know that I’m a real person despite the fact that I might look like I have everything together. I’m just as regular as everyone else with the same struggles, same family issues and drama. It’s ok to not have it all together.
Thank you, in a world where everyone is giving their highlight reels on social media that’s an important message. Tell everyone how they can find and contact you:
Alonzo: People can follow me on Instagram @Alonzodirect_ or on YouTube “Alonzo Direct.” My website will be up really soon. Also, https://solo.to/alonzodirect has all my other Social media platforms as well.
