Tap'N With Canadian Artist Muhleak

Today we’re Tap’N with Muleak all the way from Ontario, Canada!

Hi Muhleak, why don’t we start off with you telling us about your story and how you got to where you are?

Muhleak: I been writing rhymes my whole life to be honest. I’m from Kitchener, Ontario Canada, it’s damn near impossible to make it big from here so I never tried to take a dream seriously. I used to play ball more until I recorded my first track in grade 12. It took a bit for me to like my sound, but hard work made me find it and get more comfortable.

I come from a loving family, not in the best position. I’ve been the man of the house and my own bread winner, so I hope that music can [help] me feed my whole family and everyone around me. I want to motivate people and help people through tough times. I know it gets really rough, this thing called life. I’ve been through a lot you can hear it in my songs

Wow, we can see you really have a story to tell, something we’re sure a lot of people can relate to. What’s been your biggest obstacle in your journey as an artist?

Muhleak: Honestly, where I’m from. People here don’t wanna help others they jus wanna hold everyone back to where they’re at. Even if it means keeping them put. Also there’s no “buzz” here, people are more so worried about Toronto and what they got going on. It goes for everything else to be honest, when you’re in Canada. I got the most going on, always gotta do something while doing something and it adds to, but also takes away from my creative side. Being from Kitchener means I gotta go 19x harder, I don’t like wasting time.

It sounds like you can be the one to put your city Kitchener on the map. Can you share with us some lessons you’ve learned as well?

Muhleak: Not everyone has your best intentions, work your way around obstacles, don’t let people hold you back, happiness and pain are both temporary, play the game don’t let the game play you, tell your loved ones you love them and show it too before it’s too late, school is a waste of time follow your heart, blood don’t make you family, I can go on and on, I just write about it now.

You’re pretty wise. You said you '“just write about it now,” tell us more about your music. How would you describe your sound?

Muhleak: People tell me I sound like Dave East or Don Q a lot. I think I got my own sound to be honest. I just speak from the heart or try to give a feel. Some songs are good for the club and some are good to cruise around to or chill to, pick your poison. I want my music to motivate people to get up off they ass and also display what it’s like to be me: Muhleak. I really want people to feel like they can listen to my music and get through shit or feel something. If I can help people then I would be proud of myself for sure.

That’s beautiful. What other artists would you compare yourself to?

Muhleak: Again, my voice is kinda like Don Q, but maybe Meek Mill.

If you could work with any artists, who would you choose?

Muhleak: I’ll probably leave a lot out, but Lil Durk, I’ve been bumpin him since high school. Dave East, hopefully we get to finish what we had planned, YB, i know he don’t really collab too too often, Lil Baby, for sure he got bars wanna go “mono e mono” on a track. Lil Wayne, cause he was my favourite artist growing up, and probably Lil Migo, I fuck with his sound.

Can you tell us what sets you apart from other artists?

Muhleak: I feel like my work ethic and attention to detail might set me apart. I like for things to have purpose and meaning. Normally don’t force things, I like for it to come to me. So I admire art more than the average artist I believe.

Is there anything else we should know about your work”

Muhleak: It’s sincere. I want to help people; I started cause I actually have a genuine love for it and I know it’s what I want to do. I write all my own material always (as of now).

Beautiful. Tell us what are your plans for the future?

Muhleak: Go platinum. And again help people and motivate them to do something whether it’s a job, NBA, NFL, painting etc., doesn’t matter just go get it. One thing I hope to really try and change is racism, but I know that’s damn near impossible. Also to work with the artists I dream of working with.

What motivates you, or keeps you going?

Muhleak: My family. My daughter. I guess my people. All the people around me, they believe in me. My angels: Izzy, Niki, grandma, and my aunty. Seeing my hard work pay off as well. That’s always been something that makes me wanna do even more.

Can you tell us something that might surprise people to know about you?

Muhleak: I’m an elite barber. Always figuring ways to get paid. People often don’t get to know me cause they feel im just unapproachable.

That’s dope! Tell us how do you define success?

Muhleak: Being comfortable and not stressing about my craft while making a living doing what makes me happy. I don’t really want fame, but the path I’m choosing i know it probably comes with it. As long as I can take care of my people I’m successful, which is reaching my goals.

Tell everyone about any projects or music you have coming out.

Muhleak: Me and 23DREAMZ got a whole tape we ready to give y’all! I’m working on my own tape to send off for the mixtape hosting. Also I have a whole tape I didn’t drop due to grieving reasons. I’m always goin back to my old shit trying to better it now. Gotta get DJ Holiday back for TMT2 in the future.

Ok Muhleak, leave us with something you want people to know about you and tell everyone how they can find you:
