WendiRose: A Voice of Resilience and Empowerment in Hip-Hop

The music world is brimming with stories of grit, resilience, and undeniable talent, and WendiRose stands as a shining example of all three. With a career that began as an outlet for her emotions and evolved into a journey of empowerment and creativity, WendiRose is making her mark in the urban music scene. In this exclusive interview with trapLA, WendiRose takes us through her journey, inspirations, challenges, and the making of her latest track, "B.G.H.C - Bonnie Got Her Clyde."

The Beginnings of WendiRose

"I have been writing poems and rhymes since I was 13 years old," WendiRose shares. "It was just an outlet for me." Her passion for self-expression through words eventually led to her debut single in 2018. Since then, she has released an album and two EPs, including Once Exposed, which features the standout track "Big Ticket," produced by Grammy Award winner SprngBrk, also known as A1 from Love & Hip Hop Hollywood.

Among her notable collaborations is "Rich Bi*ch," a track featuring the legendary Trina, also known as the Diamond Princess. "Golden Truth Record Label invested in the Trina feature, and I was blessed to be part of the project alongside other female rappers in Arizona," she recounts. This collaboration was a strategic move to amplify her exposure, and it’s clear that WendiRose is no stranger to seizing opportunities.

The Name Behind the Artist

The name "WendiRose" is deeply personal. "My last name means a garden of roses or a bed of roses (Rosales)," she explains. "I also decided to have my artist name with an ‘i’ to distinguish it from my government name." This unique touch reflects her commitment to individuality and artistry.

Challenges as a Female Rapper

As a woman in a male-dominated industry, WendiRose has faced her share of obstacles. "I have had to experience individuals who haven’t taken women seriously or undermined us, like we can’t write just as good as a man or better," she says. Additionally, she’s encountered inappropriate propositions in exchange for opportunities. "However, I believe what is for me, no one or nothing can take it away," she asserts. "God’s will shall prevail, and what He starts, He finishes."

This unwavering faith and resilience have kept WendiRose focused. "I move around and don’t allow it to affect me," she adds.

On "B.G.H.C - Bonnie Got Her Clyde"

When discussing her latest track, "B.G.H.C," WendiRose delves into the inspiration behind it. "The song is a reflection of how I love. I am a natural protector and love hard," she explains. "It isn’t implying anyone specific, but I did want to make it fun." The track’s title and theme play out in the lyrics, particularly in her verse: “Bonnie Got Her Clyde, they gotta move out the way / Turning heads, Body, Brain, Beauty, Serving Face!”

The collaboration with Money Bag Rose came about organically. "He saw me performing at an event earlier this year and was vibing to my performance," she recalls. "We talked about collaborating after my show and shared contacts. He sent me a beat with a Bonnie and Clyde theme, and I fell in love with it. My words just started flowing."

The creative process for "B.G.H.C" was unique. "Normally, I write at home to be prepared before hitting the studio because time is money. But this track flowed naturally," she says. Money Bag Rose’s contribution added a dynamic element, as he freestyled his verse on the spot. "We both felt the track was hard," WendiRose says, adding that Money Bag Rose generously allowed her to release the song on all major platforms.

Visualizing the Music

The music video for "B.G.H.C" adds another layer to the track’s story. "The video was more of a performance video where we role-played as Bonnie and Clyde vibing together," she explains. For WendiRose, visuals are crucial to bringing her music to life. "It helps people catch the vision or feel for the track," she says.

Influences and Storytelling

WendiRose draws inspiration from legends like Mary J. Blige, Tupac, Nipsey Hussle, and Kendrick Lamar. "Mary J. Blige has influenced me my whole life. She’s more of a singer but can rap too," she notes. "I relate to her pain and self-healing." These influences shine through in her storytelling, which often balances themes of strength and vulnerability.

One powerful example of her lyrical storytelling comes from a line she shared: "Devil had machete, on my momma pregnant belly, trying to shred me like spaghetti, but like dinner I came hot and ready!" This raw honesty exemplifies her ability to turn personal pain into artistic strength.

Reflections on The Liq Podcast

WendiRose’s appearance on The Liq Podcast was a learning experience. "I didn’t know what to expect, and my shyness peaked through," she admits. Despite not winning, she values the opportunity to network and connect. "I was invited to come back, and I would go again if properly planned," she says. The experience also taught her the importance of sharpening her elevator pitch.

Future Aspirations

Looking ahead, WendiRose has ambitious goals. "In the next five years, I see myself well established, a Grammy winner as a songwriter," she shares. She also dreams of collaborating with G-Unit, with whom she’s already built a rapport. "It would be a dream to be part of the team one day or establish my brand big enough that I could pick and choose collaborations like Nicki Minaj," she says.

Advice for Aspiring Female Rappers

For other women entering the industry, WendiRose offers heartfelt advice: "Be yourself. Stay focused, and always remember why or how you started. Some people won’t work with you unless you compromise your values, but that doesn’t mean it’s the end. Stay true to yourself, and the universe or God will bless you."

Final Thoughts

With her dedication, resilience, and talent, WendiRose is a force to be reckoned with. Her journey is a testament to the power of staying true to oneself and persevering through challenges. As she continues to evolve and inspire, we can’t wait to see what’s next for this rising star.

"When the tough gets going, still ride it out," WendiRose concludes. "Don’t give up! Sometimes we just have to ride it out and see what unfolds. Patience brings virtue."
