Southern California Braces for Powerful Windstorm and Fire Risks: Red Flag Warnings and Power Shutoffs Expected
Southern California is preparing for a dangerous windstorm beginning today, with gusts reaching up to 50-80 mph and potentially exceeding 100 mph in mountainous areas. The storm’s powerful winds are expected to create hazardous conditions, including an elevated risk for wildfires. Red flag warnings for critical fire danger will be in effect from Tuesday to Thursday across LA, Ventura, and nearby regions, urging residents to remain on high alert.
The combination of dry conditions, high winds, and low humidity is a recipe for extreme fire danger, and officials are warning that over 70,000 residents could face power shutoffs as utility companies take precautionary measures to prevent wildfires caused by downed power lines. In response to the fire risks, Topanga Canyon Boulevard will be closed, and other routes may also be impacted by the weather conditions.
